Health Benefits Of Copper Utensils

Drinking water from a copper glass is very beneficial for health
Copper utensils were present in the exhibition, I recently went to.
There were copper glasses, jugs, pots, and pans.
I was awestruck by their beauty.
From that time onwards I did my research on copper utensils and a whole new world dawned on me!

So, let’s hop on the amazing journey of knowing the benefits of copper utensils!

What is Copper?

Copper has a distinctive reddish-pink metallic color.

It is malleable and ductile.

Copper is an excellent conductor of heat and electricity.
This makes it a great choice for making pots, pans, skillets, and electricity pipes.

History of Copper Utensils

Copper utensils or copperware dates back to ancient Mesopotamia.

They came as an alternative to clay or mud.

The Mesopotamians aced at making a variety of copperware that included:

  • Glasses
  • Cups
  • Plates
  • Trays
  • Pans
Furthermore, the Egyptians took over, and other than copper utensils they also made:

  • Pipelines
  • Statutes
  • Instruments
  • Tools
Undoubtedly, Indians gave a completely new look and feel to copperware.

All the households have copper kitchenware. It is even gifted to the new bride as dowry.

Certainly, Copper utensils were even welcomed by the Hindu priests or pandits.

Centuries ago, when microbes were not even discovered. Still, It was well known by ayurvedic that copper utensils have medicinal benefits.

Furthermore, in the 1800s the copper-mine workers never caught cholera.
Researches are underway on the antibacterial effects of copper.

As revealed by well-known research. Coli 157 containing water in a copper utensil can thrive only for 4 hours at most.

Escherichia coli is the leading cause of food poisoning.

Evidently, a large number of people with stomach issues are due to this microbe.

It is also equally effective against Cholera bacillus and Staphylococcus aureus as well as against other water-borne infections.

So, if we start saving water in copper utensils in all the public areas then we can naturally disinfect it and improve the health quality.

Tossing copper coins in wishing wells and fountains

You would have tossed a coin at some point in life in a wishing well, wishing fountain, or wishing pond.

But have you ever wondered what is the reason behind it? This is a centuries-old practice. Evidently, the earliest copper coins date back to the 3rd century BC.

Back then the coins were 100% copper. At that time, they were in the form of lumps. The heavier the lump, the costlier it was. As copper is an expensive metal, now coins consist of copper, zinc, and nickel.

The old wise people knew the health benefits of copper and they used to put it in water bodies to purify it.
Consequently, people started throwing coins at different water bodies. Thinking that the water deities will answer their other prayers as well.
The revenue generated from wishing wells and fountains around Europe and U.S is around 1 million. This money is then donated to local welfare organizations.
