11 Cool Benefits of Cardio Exercise That Will Make People Envy You

by Health Fitness Galore June 23, 2023

11 Benefits of Cardio Exercise

tips benefits of cardio exercise workout

1. Strengthens Heart Muscles

Cardio workouts are named after cardiovascular, which means heart. As a person exercises, his heartbeat fastens, strengthening the heart muscles and letting the heart pump more effectively.

2. Aids in Weight Loss

Cardio workouts help with weight loss. It is better for a person to do a cardio workout for 30 minutes five days a week; consistency is the key.

3. Improves Sleep Cycle

This is my tried-and-tested thing. Whenever I do cardio exercise, I sleep like a baby, as one of the benefits of cardio exercise is that it acts like a natural sleeping pill. Research has proven that a moderate 30 minutes of cardio improves a person’s sleep quality.

4. Strengthens the Immune System

Our body has a defense mechanism called the immune system, and it has some soldiers guarding the borders called leucocytes, or white blood cells.

One of the benefits of cardio exercises, according to research, is that within seconds of cardio exercises, the white blood cells in the blood double, triple, quadruple, or, in some cases, increase tenfold. This results in better immunity against common colds and flu.

5. Brightens up the Mood

Exercise helps to increase endorphins in the blood, which is a feel-good hormone. That is why you get extra chirpy after half an hour of jogging.

6. Antidepressant

One of the benefits of cardio exercise is that it helps reduce the stress hormones cortisol and adrenaline in the blood, acting as a natural anti-depressant pill.

7. Regulates Blood Pressure

Cardiovascular exercise has been found to lower blood pressure by relaxing the blood vessels and improving blood flow.

8. Optimizes Blood Sugar

A frequent cardio workout helps lower blood sugar. This can be seen if you closely monitor your blood sugar pre- and post-cardio workout sessions.

The science behind it is that when we exercise, our body takes sugar from reserve stores in the liver and muscles. Later, when the body has to restore the sugar in the reserves, it takes it from the blood, optimizing the blood sugar level.

9. Improves Bone Health

When one does cardio exercise, their bones become much denser, hence stronger.

It has been found by research that those who did cardio workouts had far greater bone health than those who did not, and they also stopped complaining of nagging bone aches.

10. Improves Memory

I have noticed that ever since I started cardio workouts. I do remember the things that I placed in what part of the drawer or wardrobe, and I was highly amazed by them.

I was figuring out what exactly had led to this improvement in my memory. On close research, I came to know that it is because of the cardio sessions I am doing on a daily basis.

11. Good for Skin

One of the benefits of cardio exercise is that it improves blood circulation, hence the shiny, supple skin. It also decreases the release of the stress hormone cortisol, which in turn helps to keep some skin conditions like acne, eczema, and psoriasis at bay.

Bottom line

Edward Stanley has said, “For those who do not make time for exercise, they will have to make time for illness.” After going through the above-mentioned benefits that a consistent cardio exercise routine does to our body, we shall adapt to this habit for a better physical and mental future. This is proven throughout the world that if we stick to a good cardio routine for five days a week, it will do wonders for us beyond our imagination, so do give it a shot.

Why Can’t I Lose Weight Even After Dieting? (Part 2)

by Health Fitness Galore May 10, 2023

This is in continuation with our last post: A burning question Why can’t I lose weight no matter what I do?

14. What Medicines Do You pop In Your Mouth?

There are a few medications that may be the reason for your mind-boggling query: Why can’t I lose weight?

The medicines that contribute to weight gain no matter how hard you work to lose weight are:
  • Blood-pressure lowering medicines like beta-blockers.
  • Insulin to keep your optimal sugar level.
  • Few antidepressants.
  • Bipolar disorder medication.
  • Steroids.
  • Anti-allergies.
  • Birth control pills.
These medicines have side effects that include:
  • Loss of appetite or feeling hungry all the time.
  • Never-ending fatigue contributing to a sedentary lifestyle.
  • Water retention.

Way Out

  • Now, this doesn’t mean that you have to dispose of all your medications right away.
  • Keep having your medications as they will improve your life’s quality.
  • Discuss this matter with your doctor. He will either change your medication or adjust the dosage accordingly.
  • You can also get a specifically designed a diet plan for yourself from a registered dietician.

15. How Is Your Health?

There are a few medical conditions that make it more difficult to shed extra pounds.

If you are wondering why cannot I lose weight, then one of these health issues could be the answer:
  • Cardiac problems
  • Hormonal imbalance
  • Eating disorders
  • Sleep disorders like Sleep apnea

Way Out

  • In the presence of these health conditions, see your doctor at once.
  • Follow the doctor’s advice.

16. Are You A Sound Sleeper?

If you sleep well daily, then it is good for your weight loss journey. But, if you sleep lesser or do not have a smooth Rapid Eye Movement (REM) phase in your sleep cycle then you are more prone to gain weight. Research has shown that those people who have interrupted the sleep cycle end up eating 300 more calories per day. This makes them sluggish, an excuse to not exercise.

Way Out

  • Take a maximum of 7 to 8 hours of uninterrupted sleep daily. Not more, not less! As less than 5 hours and more than 8 hours of sleep play around, the hormones that are linked to appetite.
  • Draw the curtains to get rid of any light.
  • Use a white noise device to limit any disturbing sound.
  • If you are an insomniac or have sleep apnea, then see a doctor.

17. You Are Eating Too Close To Bedtime

If you sleep around 10 pm and have dinner by 8.30 pm or 9 pm, then you would struggle to lose weight. A habit of midnight snacking, then it contributes to a rise in your blood sugar, insulin, and body temperature. All of this makes it even more difficult to burn fat.

Way Out

  • Have dinner 2.5 to 3 hours prior to your bedtime.
  • Designate a proper dinner time and follow it religiously.
  • Zip up your lips after that, even if you are awake for some chores.

18. How Many Glasses Of Water Do You Take In A Day?

Water is a zero-calorie drink. It washes away all the toxins from your body and satiates your thirst without any added pounds. As you drink more water, you do not feel the need to have other calorie-packed liquids like packaged juices, sodas, alcohol, or beer.

Way Out

  • Have 2 to 6 glasses of plain water daily.
Interesting post: Why shall you drink water?

19. You Do Not Plan Your Meals

If you wake up and have no healthy groceries at home, then you will end up gobbling up the nearest pack of biscuits or chips. Followed by a can of soda.

You would be really naïve if you still wonder at the end of the month why can’t I lose weight?

Way Out

  • Plan your weekly healthy menus.
  • Do your grocery accordingly.
  • In case of a really tight work schedule, prepare your meals during the weekend and freeze them.
  • Fix yourself lunch before sleeping. In this way, you won’t eat out, the next day.
  • As a result, you won’t end up trashing your body with fattening junk food.

20. You Are Expecting!! 😀

If you are expecting and then expecting to lose weight all along, then you are in a fool’s paradise. You are gaining weight and at the same time; you are trying to conceive, then run a pregnancy test at home or go to the closest laboratory. If the test comes positive, then congratulations! It is normal for you to gain 25 to 35 pounds during pregnancy.

Way Out

  • Eat healthy, nutritious whole food all along your pregnancy journey.
  • Enjoy this time.
  • Do not fret over losing weight, as now is not the time and place to do so.
  • Come back to this article after a year instead!;)

21. More Calories In, Then Out

You exercise daily and vigorously. But still, you are not able to lose weight. Are you in a habit of rewarding yourself with food after a workout session? If this is the case, then you are burning lesser calories than what you are consuming.

Way Out

  • Take proteins right after a workout. Your body will reward you with lean muscle mass that will help to burn calories.
  • Do not eat protein bars or sugary sports drinks post-workout as they result in weight gain.
  • Rather, make your own protein bars using dates, nuts, and seeds at home.

22. Too Many Small Meals

You would have heard to take numerous small meals throughout the day! But this is not the case that suits everybody.

According to studies, small meal distribution throughout the day has no significance in weight loss.

Still, wondering why can’t I lose weight even after taking many small meals all day long. This is because it doesn’t boost the metabolism.

Way Out

  • Rationally speaking, in your busy schedule, you do not have enough time to make and eat nutritious food all day long.
  • Alternatively, you can opt for an effective fat-loss method called intermittent fasting (IF). In which a person remains without food for a long fixed time frame (like 15 to 24 hours or even more) and eats only in a designated open window.

23. You Are A Hard Junkie

No matter what you do, you just cannot live without eating junk food.

Junk food contains food that is high in fats and carbohydrates. This directly hinders healthy weight loss.

Way Out

  • Try to overcome your addiction by mindful eating.
  • Do not bring any junk food at home in the first place.
  • Zip up your mouth.
  • Meditate when you think you are going to lose the war against yourself.
  • Still, if you cannot manage the junk food craving by yourself, then seek professional help.

24. You Need A Break…! (Read it in Ross’ voice :P)

Sometimes, you have been dieting for a long time and you need a break. As with the weight loss plateau, this strategy really works.

Increase your calorie intake by a few 100 calories each day. Do not stop working out and stick to resistance training. It will increase your lean muscle mass. Sleep more and relax.

Way Out

  • For 1 to 2 months, maintain your body fats, then hit back with a fresh mind and body.

25. You Have A Sedentary Lifestyle

Evidently, if you have a job that demands long hours of sitting, then your body stops producing lipase, which is a fat-inhibiting enzyme. Regularly getting up and stretching your body kicks your metabolism, leading to weight loss.

Way Out

  • For every 30 minutes of sitting in one place, move for 3 minutes.
  • Walk while taking phone calls at work.
  • Ditch the elevator and take the stairs.
  • Park your car away from your office and walk or jog all the way.

26. You Are Abstaining From Entire Food Groups

Clearly, if any diet demands cutting out whole food groups like protein, fat, or carbs, then you won’t lose weight.

You need to avail yourself of antioxidants, minerals, vitamins, and fiber from these foods.

Way Out

  • Start with 50% carbs, 30% protein, and 20% fat in a day. Tailor this ratio according to your own body needs.
  • Take lean meat, whole grains, and seafood for protein, and nuts and avocado for fats.
  • Stop taking processed and packaged food altogether.

Why Can’t I Lose Weight No Matter What I Do? 13 Reasons Why! (Part 1)

by Health Fitness Galore May 9, 2023

Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

This is a question you have been pondering for quite a while. At the beginning of the weight loss journey, you were able to drop off a couple of pounds in no time. But now it is becoming more difficult. If you are doing everything right, then what are the factors that are acting as a roadblock on your weight-loss journey? In this article, we will be discussing exactly that!

Why Can't I Lose Weight Even After Dieting?

1. Genetics Is Not In Your Favor

It is not always that you get the body shape or type you want without working hard for it. Genetics plays a key role. According to research conducted in 2019, there are over 250 different DNA regions that are linked with obesity. Additionally, every person’s body has a set-point weight range. It is the weight that you have when you eat nutritious and healthy food with moderate exercise.
In case you try to forcefully pass this set weight threshold, your brain and body will fight back. As a result, you will get the weight that it considers to be normal.
People have a strong tendency to be obese and cannot lose weight with the usual forms of diet and exercise that others do and get fruitful results in no time.

Way Out

  • Do not lose hope.
  • Cut off as many calories as possible.
  • Eat nutrient-rich food.
  • Exercise for 30 minutes, 5 days a week. You will feel fit and happy.

2. You Are Burning Far Lesser Calories Than Needed

In your weight-loss journey, 70% is the food choices you make. Whereas, 30% is the exercise you do. Why can’t I lose weight? Exercise plays a vital role in your weight-loss and weight-maintenance journey by trimming you up. Depending on your metabolism, you burn calories and fat even after an hour or two of exercising.

Way Out

  • Exercise daily.
  • Do not stick to just one form of exercise.
  • Alternate between cardio, resistance training, and breathing exercises.
This may also interest you: breathing exercises and their benefits!
  • If your body stops crying for help while exercising, increase your reps!!
  • Enjoy working out, rather than thinking of it as a form of punishment.

3. A Misleading Self-Pledge To Eat Less

Many a time, you pledge allegiance to yourself that you will eat lesser than what you used to have. So, that you can lose weight as soon as possible.

What comes next?
Skipping meals!!

You take only coffee for your breakfast. Moving forward, you skip lunch. By dinner time you are starving like crazy and end up gobbling whatever comes into your sight. Eating less contributes to a lower metabolic rate.

Way Out

  • Do not skip meals.
  • Take a power-packed hearty breakfast, followed by a nutritious lunch, and lastly, a much-lighter dinner.
  • Incorporate a variety of nutritious foods in your meals.

4. Eating More Than You Need

You underestimate your portion sizes. You eat less or way more than what your body requires. If you are a habitual eater outside, then you tend to take in more calories. You actually loaded even the food that you consider to be light on the tummy with calories.

Way Out

  • Get a specifically designed diet plan from a registered dietician.
  • Make a daily food log.
  • Count your calories.
  • Fix your meals at home rather than having them from food outlets and restaurants.

5. Your Stomach Is Not Happy With You

According to recent research, we cannot put enough stress on the fact that how important is your gut health! Your gut has a collection of bacteria that contribute to your health and healthy weight.

Way Out

  • Increase prebiotics in your diet. Prebiotics is fibrous food for good gut bacteria.
  • It is present in fruits and vegetables.
  • Choose from a variety of food choices. Do not stick to just one. So, that the good bacteria proliferate happily while enjoying the variety that you have to offer.

6. Your Gender Also Plays A Key Role In Losing Weight Fast

If you are a man, the good news is that you will start seeing results as soon as you start putting in the effort to shed those extra pounds. As males tend to have double the metabolic rate as compared to females.
Wondering about this question, why can’t I lose weight fast as a woman? Then we would like to bring to your notice that men have more lean muscle tissue and testosterone that burns fat even at a resting state.

Men mainly get their fat deposits around the belly area. While women have it around the thighs and hips.

Way Out

  • If as a couple you are hopping on the weight loss journey, then bear this fact in mind that men lose weight faster than women.
  • If you are the one with x chromosomes only, then this fact shall not demotivate you.
  • There is a piece of good news for women: they tend to carry that weight loss with grace longer than men.

7. Mindless Eating- An Answer To Why Can’t I Lose Weight?

Above all, do you have a habit of snacking or binge-eating while you are watching television, reading a book, or feeling down? Bingo!! That is the reason that you are not losing weight, no matter what you do. When the brain-body connection is missing, it leads to mindless overeating.

Way Out

  • Eat without any electronic or manual distractions.
  • Chew each bite around 10 to 15 times. As you chew food, the brain will release chemicals when you feel full so that you can stop eating.
  • Prepare your own meals. The effort you will put in, during cooking the meals will enlighten you that how many calories are going. Furthermore, you will savor each bite.

8. Low Metabolism Can Be The Reason

The metabolic rate varies from person to person. It is all because of the genes that you carry.

The lower the metabolic rate, the slower the calories burn.

Way Out

  • Work on building your lean muscles by lifting weights. In this way, your metabolism will increase and you will burn more calories.

9. Get Your Thyroid Checked

If your thyroid levels fall in between the normal range, then well and good.

But if it is lower than the normal range (hypothyroidism), then your weight loss efforts will go down the drain. Rather you would gain some extra pounds because of salt and water retention in your body.

In case of an elevated range of thyroid (hyperthyroidism), you may lose weight. But you can also gain weight because this condition makes you feel hungrier, craving fat-rich food.

Way Out

  • If you think that the thyroid could be the roadblock in your weight loss journey then discuss it with your doctor. He will run tests and set your medications accordingly.

10. How Old Are You?

Why am I not losing weight even though I am dieting so hard? We would like to counter-question. What’s your age?

Clearly, if you have hit the third decade of your life, then you would lose 3 to 5% of your muscle mass every 10 years.

This piece of information cannot be waved off. As compared to fats, muscles burn more calories.

Those ladies who have hit menopause also tend to gain fat as their estrogen levels drastically decline.
Related read: All about menopause

As you age, you need fewer calories as compared to what your body needed when you were younger.

Way Out

  • Rebuild lost muscles through resistance training or bodyweight exercises.
  • Eating nutrient-dense food.
  • Abstain from food with high-sugar content and empty calories.

11. Stress can distress your weight loss goals

Chronic stress and anxiety may lead you to consume food that is rich in fat and high in calories.

Your body stores more fat when you are under stress.

Way Out

  • Exercise, yoga, deep breathing exercises, and meditation are some stress busters.
  • If the problem persists, then take professional help.

12. You Are Depriving Yourself Of Protein

Protein is a very important nutrient when it comes to losing weight.
It directly affects the release of Ghrelin, the appetite-regulating hormone.
Having 25 to 30% calories per protein intake boosts metabolism by 80 to 100 calories in a day.
You will feel full for longer and the craving for junk food will be greatly suppressed.

Way Out

  • Make sure to start your day with a high-protein breakfast daily.
  • You will feel energetic the whole day with much-reduced cravings.
  • It will also help you to break the weight loss plateau.

13. You Are Having A Carbohydrate-Rich Diet.

In love with fries? Cannot think of your life without daily doses of pizza and bread?

If you are very far away from your target weight or you suffer from any metabolic condition, then you shall opt for a low-carb diet.

According to some studies, a low-carb diet contributes to 2 to 3 times more weight loss as compared to a low-fat diet.

Way Out

  • Follow a low-carb diet plan.
  • It will help you out in shedding off a huge pile of weight fastly.
  • This will improve the levels of many metabolic markers like Blood sugar, good cholesterol or HDL, and triglycerides, etc.

Does bulletproof coffee burn fat? The truth unraveled!!

by Health Fitness Galore May 9, 2023

Is bulletproof coffee good for you? Bulletproof coffee has been much raved about to burn fat, ultimately helping in losing weight. How much truth is to it? We will be discussing exactly this in the following piece of writing.

Does bulletproof coffee burn fat? 4 surprising facts!!

Does bulletproof coffee help you lose weight?

Who first created bulletproof coffee?

It was created by a biohacker and technology entrepreneur named Dave Asprey.

The story behind the name-Bulletproof Coffee

As Asprey was once traveling from London to San Francisco, his neighbor named the coffee. Bulletproof is the high-performing state of mind in which you can take control and enhance your biochemistry.

What is Bulletproof Coffee?

Bulletproof coffee also named ‘Butter coffee’ is a high-calorie drink. It is an energy booster for people who have adopted a ketogenic diet lifestyle.

Recipe of Bulletproof Coffee

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup of strong coffee
  • 2 Tbsp. unsalted grass-fed butter
  • 2 Tbsp. coconut oil or MCT oil

How to make it?

Dump all the ingredients into a cup and blend it well until it becomes thick and creamy. Bulletproof coffee is ready. Consume it right away.

Does bulletproof coffee burn fat? All the Myths busted

It is said to work by kickstarting the body’s fat-burning mode. This happens with the help of a process called ‘Ketosis’. The mechanism behind it is that the body converts the dietary and stored fat into ‘Ketones’. For this to work, you need to have fewer carbs and glucose reserves.
This results in your body using ketones as the sole source of energy helping you to burn fat right away.

There are many people who vouch for bulletproof coffee as a fat burner. Let’s go through its ingredients and how they can help in weight loss.
  • Coffee-contains caffeine which is a hunger suppressor and energy booster.
  • MCT oil– is an acronym for medium-chain triglycerides. It gets absorbed by the body rather faster and thus gets converted into energy quickly. It helps to curb hunger pangs, increases ketone production, lowers levels of insulin resistance, promotes fat burn improves symptoms of Alzheimer’s, strengthens the heart, and decreases cholesterol levels.

Related Read: Thermogenic Effects of food

  • Unsalted butter– It is nutrient-rich and contains conjugated linoleic acid and butyrate compounds. It helps in fighting obesity, heart issues, and diabetes.

Should you drink bulletproof coffee every day to burn fat?

The monosyllabic answer to this question is NO!!

It should be noted that butter is high caloric saturated fat, MCT oil can cause Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and essential fatty acid deficiency, and more than 4 cups of coffee every day can result in insomnia, edginess, palpitations, and upset stomach. So, take bulletproof coffee in moderation.

4 Shortcomings of a Bulletproof Coffee

There are many snags to having it every day as a breakfast or some other meal substitute

1. ‘Lacks’ nutrients

People skip breakfast and take bulletproof coffee on a low-carb, ketogenic diet.

Despite the fact that it is packed with fats that work as an appetite suppressor and make you energized in a fraction of a minute. But it lacks many important nutrients like proteins, minerals, vitamins, and fibers. It is nothing but a poor breakfast choice.

2. ‘Highly’ caloric

Bulletproof coffee is a calorie-rich drink having 460 calories in a cup. Not every person has the ability to burn it off. So, rather fat loss may lead to weight gain.

3. ‘Over-saturated’ saturated fat

The amount of saturated fat in a single serving of bulletproof coffee can cause more harm than good. It is better to uniformly distribute other safe and good essential fats in your daily diet. You can get them through olive oil, seeds, nuts, and fatty fish (sardines, tuna, and mackerel).

4. ‘Sky-high’ cholesterol levels

While you take bulletproof coffee while following a ketogenic, and low-carb diet.
Although your:
  • Total and LDL (bad) cholesterol level remains stable.
  • HDL (good) cholesterol level increases.
  • Triglycerides and weight drops.
But, studies have shown that all that butter in the bulletproof coffee raises the LDL (bad) cholesterol with time.

The last words

Does bulletproof coffee burn fat? Although MCT oil has a ‘thermogenic effect’ which means that it can enhance the body’s ability to burn fat. We would like to conclude this by saying that it does help in fat loss only when you are following a ketogenic diet and have an optimal cholesterol level.

In case you have high cholesterol or a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 30 or more then it is better to not take this coffee. As it contains butter that contributes to increased cholesterol. Do not just rely on bulletproof coffee to burn fat. You should rather opt for healthy eating habits and daily exercise.

Every person’s body reacts differently to different diet plans so it is not necessary that your body will respond with the best results for a high-fat diet. The best thing is to take bulletproof coffee only after consulting with your doctor and nutritionist. At the same time, it is highly recommended to get your blood markers checked regularly.

Satiety Levels Of Food-5 Amazing Foods To A Flat Tummy

by Health Fitness Galore April 26, 2023

Satiety levels of food

Satiety levels of food. A term I came to know about when I was on my weight loss journey almost a decade back. (It’s a never-ending struggle though!) Even after having food, I felt starving to such an extent that I would gobble up everything and anything in sight.

This resulted in me getting away from my goal with every passing day. Then I discussed this issue with one of my friends who is a nutritionist and she told me about the satiety levels of food. A whole new world dawned on me. It totally changed my perspective on eating food. Nevertheless, I hit my target weight faster.

What is the meaning of satiety levels of food?

Have you ever noticed that after a certain kind of meal, you feel full for a longer time than the others? This is satiety that you are experiencing and that particular type of food is having higher levels of satiety.

In 1995, a few researchers at the University of Sydney carried out an experiment. Different participants ate different foods and gave their feedback after 2 hours about their feeling of being full. Based on the results, they put together a satiety index.

High-satiety foods for weight loss

If you are on the weight loss journey, then I won’t let you do the same mistake I did. I will give you a list of foods that have a higher satiety index, which will make you curb hunger and feel full for longer.

If you follow the list of high-satiety foods mentioned below, you will be consuming a lot lesser calories, as your portion size and mid-meal snacking will greatly reduce.

1. Potatoes

What Is The Satiety Index?
Boil it.
Bake it.
Gobble it up…!!

And you will feel full for a far longer time.

Weight Watchers demonize potatoes since a long time. Although, in the satiety index study that was discussed earlier, boiled and baked potatoes topped the list with a score of 323. Hold your horses, it does not give you the liberty to have a large portion of french fries as they have a relatively low score of 116.

Potatoes have starch, vitamin C, potassium, water, and many other healthful nutrients. A moderate amount of protein and fibers and almost no amount of fats. According to a few studies, potatoes satiate your hunger for a long is because of the presence of an appetite-suppressing protein called proteinase inhibitor 2 (PI2).

2. Eggs

Eggs keep you full for long

Sunny sides up or boiled eggs are the most-coveted breakfast. Think of the most protein-enriched food and eggs pop up in front of your eyes. They are a weight watcher’s best friend.

Eggs are an excellent source of protein, minerals, and vitamins. They help in reducing hunger for an extended period.

3. Lean meat and fish

Fish tops the satiety index amount the protein-rich food. Whereas red meat stands second. As they are high in protein and low in saturated fat, they are your perfect meal choice in your weight loss journey. It also included vegetarian proteins like soy on the list.

4. High-fiber foods

Here I would like to put a question in front of you.

Do you feel full for long after having a bowl of store-bought cornflakes or overnight oats? The answer would surely be the latter one. It is because oats are rich in fiber. Not only it has a high satiety level, but it also helps in controlling cholesterol and blood sugar levels.

Fiber-rich foods include:
  • Oats
  • Legumes
  • Whole-wheat bread
  • Rye
  • Barley
  • Certain fruits like oranges and bananas
  • Certain vegetables like carrots and beetroot

5. Nuts

High Satiety Index Foods

Whenever I feel hungry in between meals, my quick fix is a handful of almonds or walnuts. This keeps me energetic and satiated for a longer duration.

Nuts are good at bursting the hunger bubble. They have a level of protein and unsaturated fats. These are healthy fats. According to one research, in order to get the most out of the satiety level of nuts, it is really important to chew nuts properly prior to swallowing them.

Take away

The satiety level of foods with higher values has certain characteristics like they are high in protein/ fibers and having a low energy density. Thus, they help you lose weight and remain trimmed for years to come.

The point worth considering here is that these foods have to be whole, single-ingredient foods. Try to stay away from highly processed foods as much as you can.

10 Reasons Not To Buy A Smartwatch
Health & FitnessMental HealthWeight Loss

10 Reasons Not To Buy A Smartwatch (Smartwatch Disadvantages)

by Health Fitness Galore April 19, 2023

10 Reasons Not to Buy a Smartwatch

10 Reasons Not To Buy A Smartwatch
To smartwatch or not to smartwatch. That is the question!
I am compiling the reasons not to buy a smartwatch after going through a smartwatch detox myself. Now, what happened is that it was my 3rd smartwatch in the span of 7 years that broke down. It was not getting charged, hence it died a not-so-painful death (pun intended!).
So, I started surfing to get ideas of what smartwatch to buy and which company is totally up on the smartwatch game nowadays.
Meanwhile, I was exercising and completing my 10,000 steps target daily. Honestly, in the beginning, I used to miss my smartwatch, and from time to time; I used to stare at my bare wrist.
But, around day 14 of living a smartwatch-free life, I was SURE that I do not need it anymore. And that is EXACTLY what I am going to tell you: The reasons not to buy a smartwatch!

1. You still need a smartphone-one of the top reasons not to buy a smartwatch

One cannot solely operate smartwatches. You need a smartphone anyway. So, why not just invest in a good phone instead?

2. Smartwatches and their regular charging issues

I told you earlier that my last smartwatch issue was that it was not retaining the battery or getting charged AT ALL. In the beginning, it used to get discharged as fast as you say BAZINGA! But then a time came when it stopped charging altogether.
One of the top reasons not to get a smartwatch is that this is the issue with most smartwatches. No matter how much the companies claim of longer retaining battery life, you will get a heartbreak (a dead smartwatch) in the middle of a strenuous cardio workout, where you have to keep a track of the calories you burnt during that particular session.

3. Extra burden of a device to charge

One of the reasons not to buy a smartwatch is that you would have to worry about charging a new device every night other than your laptop and mobile phone(s) (some people have two or more!)

No matter how much you try saving up your smartphone’s battery, with the number of notifications that will pop up, the battery will eventually get depleted.

As a result, you would have to run your smartwatch more or less in airplane mode, which will ultimately defeat the purpose of a smartwatch.

4. Heavy On The Pocket

Why I Stopped Wearing A Smartwatch?

Smartwatches are really expensive nowadays. Now, I can see a few eye rolls here from the people who are pro-low-budget smartwatches. You will also agree with me that the cheaper versions of smartwatches do not have many features and they are not trustworthy even. For outstanding features, you always have to go towards Fitbit, Samsung, or Apple smartwatches. And in that amount, you can get your hands on a new smartphone instead.

5. It’s complicated

Just setting up and synching the smartwatch with your smartphone takes time. It is one of the reasons not to buy a smartwatch. Whenever the battery dies, you have to set up the time once again. I assure you that it used to irritate me like anything.

6. Health tracking is not always totally accurate

One of the downsides of buying a smartwatch is that we start relying totally on the health stats displayed by the smartwatch. But low-priced smartwatches do not always give totally accurate pieces of information. Do not play with your health by blindly trusting smartwatch stats.

7. Smartwatch-An eyesight killer

Now, as we were discussing health, smartwatches do otherwise for our eye health. Such a small screen puts a strain on our eyes and may result in our eyesight getting worsened.

8. The daily step count can be deceptive

reasons not to buy a smartwatchHere I would like to share a funny incident with you. Once, I went to a hilly area by car. It was a really bumpy terrain, so I was constantly jumping. I spent about an hour there marveling at the breathtaking lake that was on the top of the hill. I just picnicked beside the lake and came back. In the night, my smartwatch was congratulating me for completing 15k steps. Now, how has this happened? The watch kept counting all the jerks as steps. My life was a lie!!!:’)

9. Obsolescence-one of the reasons not to buy a smartwatch

reasons not to buy smartwatch

Every electronic gizmo gets obsolete in three years. Now, isn’t it so?
  • Its battery will drain fast
  • It will start looking dull,non-cool, and dilapidated
  • With time, other systems won’t support it.

10. Uncomfortable in sharing your basic information

If you are one of those people who aren’t comfortable sharing your biometrics and basic habits with the brand of wearable you choose, then it is one of the top reasons not to buy a smartwatch.

But then you already give up WAY more information through your smartphone. Start living in a cave, maybe…!

Bonus reason for tackling your mental health

Direct access to notifications increases your anxiety-one of the top reasons not to buy a smartwatch

When smartwatches first came to the market, everyone (including me!) was awestruck by the feature of getting all the notifications on my wrist. It was really cool to be able to checkout emails, and social media notifications on the go.

On the contrary, the constant notifications were increasing the stress and anxiety levels of people and were playing with their mental health and well-being.

Imagine you are on a vacation, excitedly sightseeing, and all of a sudden you get bombarded with a number of emails. All your happy vacationer mood will poof off..!!

Bottom Line

Wrapping it up for you about the reasons not to buy a smartwatch. A smartwatch is a cool tech device, and it is a multi-tasker for sure. Nevertheless, after a few years, it ends up in the dustbin or a drawer (if you are a necrotech like me!) But eventually; it is of no use.

It seems that we have reached the same point with smartwatches that we once were with the MP3 player before iPod’s release.

Not a single smartwatch manufacturer has yet come up with such an interesting feature that makes one ask how they could live without it.

Better invest in a good smartphone instead. After all, a smartwatch is incomplete without a smartphone. If you have the question in mind, should I buy a smartwatch or a normal watch? Then we must ask you to go for a normal watch that can be handed down through the generations to come.

How To Reduce Visceral Fats? Can I Be Slim And Still Have Visceral Fat?

by Health Fitness Galore April 12, 2023

7 unknown facts about how to reduce visceral fat belly

You are more than likely to have visceral fat in your body. If you have a habit of being a couch potato. Binge-watching your favorite seasons while munching on chips and cookies, and sipping on a can of soda.
If you exercise daily, then the visceral fat will go away. Otherwise, it will just lead to multiple health issues. That is both acute and chronic. Visceral fats are present inside your abdominal cavity.
In this article, we are going to discuss the harms visceral fats bring and how to fight visceral fats off.

How To Reduce Visceral Fats? Can I Be Slim And Still Have Visceral Fat?

What are visceral fats?

‘Visceral fats’ are located inside your abdominal cavity and they wrap around your internal organs. We also know them as the ‘hidden or latent fat’. It is difficult to judge the number of visceral fats you are carrying. But they contribute to about 1/10th of your total body fat.
Evidently, there are two telltale signs of visceral fats- a large waistline and a huge potbelly. Then, there is ‘subcutaneous fat’ that is stored just below the skin. This is visible fat that you can feel and pinch.
There are grave health issues that accompany visceral fat accumulation. It gives a person an ‘apple-shaped body’. The characteristics of this type of body are a beer belly and a wider waistline.
Much to your surprise, thin people may also have it making them prone to many health risks. Now you would be wondering how would a thin person know whether he has visceral fat or not. The answer is coming later on! Stay put!
Visceral fats are more common in men than in women.

Why shall I reduce visceral fats?

Fats in your body are present in the form of cholesterol, triglycerides, and other essential fatty acids.
They help in:
  • storing energy.
  • keeping you warm.
  • protecting your vital organs.
  • act as messengers for the proteins.
  • produce hormones.
  • visceral fats generate a higher level of inflammatory markers.
With time, the hormone produced by visceral fats can result in chronic inflammation, leading to a risk of long-lasting diseases. Numerous studies have shown that an outrageous amount of visceral fats result in inflammatory markers for chronic diseases like:
  • type 2 diabetes
  • insulin resistance
  • heart diseases
  • stroke
  • certain types of cancers

Having too much visceral fat in the belly can also cause:

  • Alzheimer’s
  • asthma
  • fertility problems
  • osteoarthritis
  • lower back pain
  • liver disease
  • gall bladder disease and gout

Liver diseases and visceral fats

Visceral fats discharge the inflammatory markers and free fatty acids, which then enter the liver through the portal vein. The portal vein collects and brings blood from the spleen, intestines, and pancreas to the liver. This results in a fat buildup in the liver that may lead to type 2 diabetes and liver insulin resistance.

Heart diseases and visceral fats

Chronic inflammation leads to plaque layers inside the arteries. Plaque is a combination of cholesterol, fatty deposits, fibrin, calcium, and cellular waste products. It makes the artery walls rigid and thick. This condition is ‘Atherosclerosis’. It progresses rapidly, taking over. It may result in bursting the arteries. As a result, the arterial blood clots completely or partially. It acts as a roadblock for smooth blood flow, leading to a heart attack.

How to Reduce Visceral Fats?

You can achieve it by making the following lifestyle and dietary choices.

1. Move your body

As much as you can, remain active and do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise daily. It will help in shedding off both the subcutaneous and visceral fats. You have to perform a combination of exercises to reduce visceral fats. They include strength training, cardio, and breathing exercises like yoga and meditation. Other than that, walking, jogging, dancing, and sprinting will also do wonders.

2. Go for intermittent fasting (IF)

IF comes in very handy to reduce visceral fats. The basic principle behind it is eating and fasting in a particular time frame only. The good part about intermittent fasting is that it does not banish you from any type of food. Rather, it focuses on when you shall eat it. It makes you consume fewer calories as you limit the frequency of your meals.

Research has shown that through intermittent fasting, one can reduce 4 to 7% of visceral fats in the duration of 1.5 to 6 months.

3. Go for a low-carb diet

Low-carb diets fasten the process of reducing visceral fats. Low-carb diets are more effective than low-fat diets, according to studies. You can also opt for the ketogenic diet, a very low-carb diet. On a ketogenic diet, you are going to reduce carb and swap it with fat. As a result, your body will go into a natural metabolic state called ‘ketosis’.

4. Watch what you eat

Add

Introducing more vitamin D and calcium to your diet is directly proportional to a decrease in visceral fats. So add more dairy, tofu, fatty fish (like sardines, tuna, mackerels), and green leafy vegetables to your diet. Also, have whole grains, lean proteins, probiotics, and low-fat dairy products in your regular diet.

Subtract

Avoid as many trans fats as you can, like dairy and meats, processed and deep-fried foods, white rice, sugar, soda, bakery goods, cakes, pastries, and candies.

5. De-stress yourself

Get rid of all the stress-causing factors in your life. As stress, anxiety, and tension are the leading cause of visceral fat accumulation.

Stress results in the result of a hormone called ‘cortisol’ that is directly linked to a visceral fat belly. It also prompts you to binge eat, resulting in gaining weight.

Try meditation, yoga, and mindful breathing exercises to destress. Also, give special focus to your favorite pastimes.

6. Sleep well

A good night’s sleep of 7 to 8 hours is very necessary for your overall health. Studies directly link insomnia to increased visceral fats. Try to meditate or take magnesium or a relaxing herbal tea before sleeping to ensure a night of quality sleep.

7. Quit smoking and drinking alcohol

Smoking and drinking also contribute to an increase in the visceral fat belly. Numerous studies have been conducted on this matter. Act smartly, and stop drinking and smoking, to improve your life and health quality.

When to Consult Your Doctor

If you have any signs and symptoms of visceral fats or if you are thin and wondering whether you have it or not, then book an appointment with your doctor. Your doctor will go through your heart rate, blood pressure, diabetes level, and other vital signs. He will also run a few blood and urine tests and then will give the final verdict.

Endnote

Visceral fats are extremely dangerous and may lead to chronic diseases like type 2 diabetes, heart diseases, and certain types of cancer. It also makes one prone to heart attack, dementia, liver disease, and stroke. However, the good news is that you can follow certain tactics to get rid of visceral fats.

These tactics include eating more lean proteins and lesser carbs and added sugars, moving your body as much as you can, getting rid of stress, sleeping well, introducing intermittent fasting, and a keto diet. Follow these strategies and enjoy a reduced visceral fat belly, healthy life.

9 Benefits of Fish Oil

From Head to Toe:10 Benefits Of Fish Oil For Your Entire Body

As the name indicates, fish oil is the oil derived from the tissues of oily fish. Fish oil is rich in Omega-3 and Omega-6 Fatty Acids. Environmental Protection Agency-approved fatty fish as a source of fish oil is cold-water fish like cod, salmon, herring, mackerel, sardines, and anchovies as they contain a lesser amount of toxins.

Fish provides omega-3 oil sources, but it does not produce it itself. The omega-3 in it comes from the plankton and algae it consumes. But some fish like cod produce it in their liver, hence the cod liver oil which is quite a famous fish oil supplement worldwide.

Fish oil has omega-3 fatty acids- eicosapentaenoic (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA). According to WHO guidelines, one should have fatty fish twice a week to get the benefits of fish oil.

Fish Oil has a number of benefits. So, you shall take it in its original form or as a dietary supplement.

9 Benefits of Fish Oil

Benefits of Fish Oil

1. Fish oil for eyes

When I was young, my mother used to cook fish. She always stressed the fact that it will brighten my eyes. Little did I know that fish oil is, in reality, an eye candy.

One of the benefits of fish oil is that it decreases Dry Eye Syndrome (DES). DES is also called keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS)- which is a health condition in which the eyes get extremely dry, leading to irritation, redness, eye fatigue, and blurred vision.

There are many factors of DES, out of which is meibomian glands dysfunction. Meibomian glands are small glands present on the eyelid’s edge, which produce the eye oil film secretion.

Omega-3 fatty acids facilitate this gland’s proper functioning. Some research has proven that Omega-3 fatty acid is good for better eyesight.

Macular Degeneration is a condition in which the central part of the retina- the Macula degenerates, resulting in loss of central vision.

If it is age-related, then it is called age-related macular degeneration (AMD) which can lead to blindness. Omega-3 decreases the effects of AMD.

2. Fish oil for losing weight

One of the benefits of fish oil is that it is helpful for weight loss by curbing appetite. Research has proven that those people who had fish oils tend to feel fuller for two hours. According to another study, it is proven that fish oil helps to burn fat more than the fat-burning pills available on the market.

The best time to take fish oil for weight loss?

Dieticians highly recommend taking fish oil half an hour before or after a meal. But it can work in overall and belly fat loss only when you follow a healthy diet and exercise routine.

3. Fish oil for heart

Fish oil is good for heart health. It is a natural blood thinner and has antioxidants. According to research, omega-3 fatty acids may help to unclog the arteries of the heart. The American Heart Association recommends 1 gram a day of EPA and DHA for heart patients.

4. Fish oil for skin

Due to the presence of Omega-3 fatty acids, fish oil is an excellent source for treating eczema and acne. Taking fish oil on a daily basis helps fight skin cancer and the negative impacts of UV Radiation. It helps make the skin soft and smooth, baby-like.

5. Fish oil for mental health

Omega-3 in fish oil helps in fighting mild-to-moderate depression, postpartum depression, and schizophrenia. It is good for brain health and its proper functioning. You can also use it as a mood stabilizer.

6. Fish oil during pregnancy

It is important to take fish oil during pregnancy as it plays a key role in the eye, nervous system, and fetal brain formation.

Not only does it help in coping with preterm labor, pregnancy, and postpartum blues when the mother’s hormones get all messed up, but it also plays a key role in the optimal birth weight of the baby.

You shall take fish oil religiously from the beginning of 2nd trimester of pregnancy.

What is the recommended daily dose of fish oil during pregnancy?

It is recommended to take 200 mg of powerful omega-3 fatty acids daily.

7. Fish oil for inflammation

Inflammation is a natural reaction of the body to any foreign substance, which can lead to infection or any deterioration in the body. Omega-3 fatty acids in fish oil help to reduce the production of molecules and substances, which lead to inflammation.

According to research, to reduce joint inflammation because of rheumatoid arthritis,2.7 grams of Omega-3 fatty acids shall be taken daily.

8. Fish oil for liver diseases

Fish oil is really beneficial when it comes to getting rid of fatty liver, which is a prevalent condition nowadays in adults due to extremely poor food choices. Nowadays, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver disease (NAFLD) is also quite common.

There is a theory that insufficient intake of Omega-3 fatty acids may lead to Liver Cirrhosis. Cirrhosis is the scarring of liver tissues that leads to improper liver functioning.

9. Fish oil for bones

Fish oil is really beneficial for bone health. It extends the calcium absorption in bones from food, strengthening the bones. Nowadays, when osteoporosis is common in both men and women, it can be avoided by taking fish oil’s optimal daily dose. It, in turn, helps in increasing bone mass density (BMD).

Take Away

Fish Oil is the oil taken from fish tissues. Most of the fish cannot make it on their own, rather, it comes from the plankton and algae they feed on. The benefits of fish oil are innumerable.

It is good for eyesight, helps prevent blindness, needed in the 2nd trimester of pregnancy for the development of babies’ many vital organs like the brain, nervous system, and eyes. As an inflammatory, it helps in relieving joint pain. Moreover, it is quite beneficial for treating stress and mental illnesses. It also treats the skin ailments like acne and eczema.

According to WHO, you shall take twice a fish a week to benefit from its oil. Alternatively, you can take its supplements. You shall choose fish oil supplements after going through the ingredients thoroughly as many supplements do not have the ingredients which they are vouching for.

Reduce Weight Immediately: Stop Doing 4 Things

by Health Fitness Galore February 2, 2023

I stood in horror as I saw my weight being the highest until now. Enough is enough, I thought to myself. For the past few days, I was having severe knee pain and then I got to know that it was because of my increasing weight.

Weight loss is very important to important for a number of health benefits like lowering cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar levels, and lessening the stress on bones and joints.

But, to reduce weight, you must have nerves of steel. Otherwise, you will get demotivated and off the track in an instant. You shall stop the four things immediately, to reduce weight in no time.

Keep reading to find out 4 well-kept secrets regarding effective weight loss.

1. Stop Counting Your Calories To Reduce Weight

You lose yourself the moment you start counting the calories of everything that you are going to eat. Rather, you have to focus on nutrient-dense foods.

They have:

  • Lean protein
  • Healthy fats
  • Complex carbohydrates
  • Minerals
  • Vitamins

Nutrient-dense foods include:

  • Whole grains
  • Lean meats
  • Eggs
  • Beans
  • Nuts and seeds
  • Fruits
  • Vegetables
  • Low-fat or fat-free milk products
  • Seafood

2. Stop Looking At Your Weighing Scale To Reduce Weight

Ditch looking at your weighing scale for once. In the beginning, you step on your weighing scale to control your weight. But with time, you start getting controlled by your weighing scale instead.

As long as you do not see the needle moving towards the left side, you get washed by feelings like:

  • Guilt
  • Shame
  • Remorse

This makes you judgemental towards yourself. The fact of the matter is that your fats are getting replaced by muscles that are heavier. You start losing in inches first. So, hang in there!!

Nevertheless, you should not blindly follow a set weight goal to reduce. Rather, determine the weight you feel comfortable in. Your comfortable weight changes with your age. It will be different during your teenage years, adolescence, and as you age.

3. Stop Comparing Yourself With Others

Sometimes, while skimming through a fashion or lifestyle magazine, you start daydreaming about getting the same body as the models, posing and flaunting their chiseled jawlines and hourglass figure.

It is an unrealistic goal‌. They have to keep themselves looking the way they are, as it is their bread and butter.

However, you have to set a standard weight at which you feel the most healthy and fit. Therefore, Keep it real and logical.

4. Stop Complaining

Rather, practice gratitude to your body. Your body had been there with you during thick and thin. Do not stress about mundane things. Also, never make weight loss a matter of life and death as it will play with your mental health and will make you anxious. Do you know stress contributes to weight gain?

Stress leads to:

  • The release of a hormone called cortisol. As a result, you start craving sugary and fatty foods.
  • Binge-eating that makes you gain weight
  • Fluctuation in your insulin and blood pressure levels.

Takeaway

You have to discontinue doing these four things to reduce weight. Stop complaining rather than be thankful to your body for all the amazing things it has been doing for you all along.

Furthermore, do not compare yourself to others. Stop looking at the weighing scale, as many times it will only contribute to guilt and remorse. As a result, you will get off track for a long time.

Last but not least, stop counting the calories. We wish you the best of luck with your weight loss journey!:)

8 Benefits of Jumping Rope to Lose Weight Fast

8 Benefits Of Jumping Rope To Lose Weight Fast

Two weeks back I was having my last slice of pizza along with a can of coke just as I bent to get hold of a piece of mushroom that rolled down on the floor realization struck me hard that my pot-belly was staring back at me. This was it, I thought now or never, and started thinking of ways to reduce weight.

As I strolled down memory lane to the park, which was just opposite my place during my childhood where I used to skip rope like crazy. This led me to think of all the benefits which my sports teacher used to tell us regarding the benefits of skipping rope (Benefits of Jumping Rope). These include a number of things, but before that, we will get ready to jump a rope.

Prerequisites for jumping rope

  • Wear a comfortable pair of joggers and sweatpants.
  • Eat a banana, which is a very good pre-workout snack.
  • Do a 5 minutes warm-up, making your muscles ready.
  • Get a hold of a rope and Jump in the air, jump in the air, jump in the air, JUMP, JUMP.
  • While jumping, keep your core muscles sucked in. Do not let them droop.

8 Benefits of Jumping Rope

1. Lose Weight Fast by Burning Calories

Jumping rope is an exercise that doesn’t cost much. A jumping rope is lightweight and space-savvy. You can even place it in a purse and get going. Unlike, a pair of dumbbells weighing as low as 0.5 kilograms can seem to be equivalent to a brick.

You can burn 10 calories a minute during jump roping as compared to 7.6 calories, which are burnt during brisk walking and 2-5 calories burnt during a minute of doing planks.

There are 239 calories in a chicken burger, so to burn it you have to jump rope for around 24 minutes a day.

2. Belly Fat Reducer

This is exactly my target area. Remember my pot belly staring back at me? Jumping rope is a type of HIIT exercise in which maximum calories are burnt, also leading to belly fat loss, which is one of the most difficult jiggly wiggly parts to get rid of.

3. Helps fight osteoporosis

Jumping ropes strengthens our bones, making them denser, which leads to you fighting osteoporosis.

4. Helps with coordination and concentration

When you are jumping rope, your brain is busy doing its work by calculating exactly when you have to take a leap after each circle and giving commands to your leg muscles to jump on the exact microseconds. This helps in developing good brain coordination and concentration.

benefits of skipping rope

5. Healthy Heart

As we jump rope, we start losing our breath, leading our heart to pump blood more rapidly, which makes it a very good cardio exercise that leads to a healthy, happy heart.

6. Healthy Lungs

As mentioned above, when we jump rope, we lose our breath so our lungs also work faster, leading to good pulmonary power.

7. Better Skin

Short of blush and have to go for a night out with friends. Take out your rope and jump it for 10 minutes for an instant blush and glow. Jumping rope leads to a really cool blood flow.

8. Flexible you

Flexibility is something that comes in handy many times. It improves our performance in physical activities and decreases our risk of injuries. This is exactly what jumping rope helps us with. It makes our body more flexible, and more durable. Sounds like an ad commercial.

Jumping rope benefits are aplenty. It has many other benefits for physical and mental health but still, if something is overdone, it leads to harmful impacts. If we jump too high, we will feel pain in our knees. This condition is called Patellar Tendonitis or in Layman’s language “Jumper’s Knees”. So, calculate your jump lengths according to your strength.
